Autumn Show, Saturday 7th September

The Autumn Show held on Saturday 7th September in the Little Baddow Memorial Hall was well supported as usual, with over 220 entries, including 3 new exhibitors and 6 juniors.  The run-up to the show was interesting, with the late withdrawal of the Horticultural Judge, which meant that we had to ring around in the week beforehand to find a judge, thanks to Tony Rogers for stepping in at the last minute! In addition, once the entries had been received we only had two floral art entries - but our judge Helen Bird was still happy to attend and complete the judging!

Barbara Smith was the star of the cookery classes, taking home both the Cookery & Handicraft trophy for the most points in the cookery, and also the Smart Plate for her wonderful Panettone.  We had 6 entries to our recipe class this time - which was for a Chocolate Sandwich Cake.

Alex Archard was the star of the Horticulture section - winning 4 of the trophies, including the prestigious ‘Banksian Medal'.  Jackie Sibthorp also won two trophies - winning the prize for the best Floral Exhibit and the most points in the fruit & veg.

Olivia Janes won the Junior Walton Cup for her lovely Hedgehog cake and she also won the prize for the most points for the over 10's, with her brother Nathan taking the prize for the under 10's!

Elaine Latter won the Photographic points prize for her first trophy at any of our shows and Barry Coe won the Best Photograph in Show for his Garden Shed photograph.   Dennis Wakefield won the Rose awards and Betty Stevens won the Floral Art prizes.

Our President Penelope Keys presented the prizes, and a lovely afternoon was had by all, also partaking of the cakes & teas being served up by the Horticultural members.

We now look forward to our Spring 2020 Show - which takes place in the Little Baddow Hall on 28th March.
